In February 2006, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) hosted its first-ever international conference on methodological issues in field surveys. 125 participants from over 20 countries came together in London, representing 31 different institutions, including academia, public health institutes, UN agencies and NGOs. A special issue dedicated to the conference will appear shortly in the peer-reviewed journal Emerging Themes in Epidemiology. |

This year, LSHTM and the WHO Collaborating Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters, University of Louvain (CRED) are teaming up to organise a repeat conference, to be held on June 4th and 5th, 2007 in Brussels, Belgium. The conference seeks to identify and discuss practical and theoretical problems with health surveys performed in challenging contexts such as remote and low resource settings, regions affected by conflict or natural disasters, and hidden or vulnerable populations. Monday, 4th June will be dedicated to oral and poster presentations, while Tuesday, 5th June will feature three to four workshops focused on key issues in current health survey research, led by recognised experts and open to all participants. Workshop titles and contents are not yet finalised, but are expected to encompass both programmatic and methodological issues. |
