This one-day international conference will be held at the School, and seeks to identify and discuss practical and theoretical problems with cross-sectional surveys performed under challenging conditions such as low income areas or regions affected by conflict or natural disasters.

In an attempt to improve survey methodologies under challenging conditions, the conference seeks to:

1. highlight cross-disciplinary problems in survey methodology.

2. Iidentify obstacles in developing acceptable survey methods, and

3. Explore possible ways forward.

It is hoped that those involved in surveying will be able to utilise this conference as a means to discuss these issues and put them in the public domain, so that problems can be properly addressed.
